SODA POP CAVITIES

Do you realize that the average 16 oz. bottle of soda pop may have as much as 13 teaspoons of sugar in it? Far and away the biggest cause of tooth decay and tooth loss today is associated with overuse of soda pop products. Even sport and energy drinks have very high sugar and citric acid contents and can easily cause severe cavities to start. Diet sodas, while they don't have sugar, still have a high acid content and can cause cavities as well if over- used.  Carefully read the ingredients of products that you eat or drink and try to substitute sugar free products as much as possible.
If you have a habit of drinking excess amounts of pop or energy /sport drinks, you may have tooth damage.  Often, the cavities begin between the teeth or along the gumline where they may not be immediately noticed by the patient.  These type of cavities may not be painful until they become quite advanced and often result in unsightly smiles and broken teeth.  It is not uncommon for young people, many in their early 20’s to experience tooth loss from this habit.

Regular dental check-ups with x-rays can detect the beginning stages of the cavities and alert you to the problem so that you can work on reducing the amount of sugared drinks that you consume.   By early detection, your dentist can restore the cavities and discuss ways of preventing further tooth damage.
At Sciascia Dental   http://www.sciasciadental.com/, we emphasize preventive dentistry and when a problem with sugared drinks is suspected, we make an effort to advise the patient and help them make alternative choices which would not be likely to cause tooth damage.  Of course, we also are able to restore the damaged teeth with natural looking restorations to restore the beauty and function of the patient’s teeth.  Even people who have severe damage or  tooth loss can have their smile restored in a few easy appointments. Of course, to maintain that new smile, the patient needs to change their eating and drinking habits and practice good home care to prevent recurrence of the problem.

Dental Implants -- The Natural Tooth Replacement

Nothing can take the place of a healthy set of teeth, but when disease or accident ends in tooth loss, it's good to know that there are options for restoring your smile without having to wear removable partials or dentures. Today there is a better alternative -- dental implants. Dental implants replace the natural root of the tooth so that the replacement tooth is not connected to or dependent on the adjacent teeth. They are a permanent solution, natural looking and feeling Talk to the staff at Sciascia Dental to see if you are a good candidate.
The Dental Implant procedure is actually pretty simple from the patient’s perspective.  Placing the implant is about a 1 hour appointment and is done in our office under local anesthetic.  Most patients are surprised that the procedure was so simple and usually only have to take an Ibuprofen or two that day and just go about their normal business.  The surgical area is very small and heals quickly with very little special care.  In most cases, a temporary tooth can be placed so the patient has a replacement tooth while the implant is healing.

At Sciascia Dental, we take advantage of the latest Implant technology and use a computerized system to guide the implant surgery.  By using a CAT Scan of the area, Dr. Sciascia can place the implant in a very precise position to get the best results.  This adds a great measure of safety and predictability to the Implant  procedure and helps guarantee the best chances for functional and esthetic success.
